About this role

Care for ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions under the supervision of a registered nurse. Licensing is required. Provide medical treatment and personal care in extended care and home health settings.

Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients' charts. Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in conditions like adverse reactions, and take necessary action. Provide basic patient care such as taking vital signs, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, and performing catheterizations.

Work as part of a health care team to assess patient needs, plan care, and implement interventions. Collect samples like blood, urine, and sputum, performing routine laboratory tests. Supervise nurses' aides and assistants while helping patients with bathing, dressing, hygiene, and mobility.

Demonstrate accuracy in performing work thoroughly and customer orientation by meeting patients' needs while following procedures. Show technical aptitude, safety awareness, and ability to work under pressure. Adapt to changes, communicate effectively, and maintain ethical standards in care delivery.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners with no restrictions
  • At least one year worked as an LPN prior to being employed by an HHA
  • Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, and note times and amounts on patients' charts
  • Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action
  • Provide basic patient care and treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, or performing catheterizations
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration
  • Work as part of a health care team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care and implement interventions
  • Collect samples such as blood, urine and sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples
  • Help patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking
  • Provide medical treatment and personal care to patients in private home settings, instructing family members in simple nursing tasks
