About this role
The Nurse Shift Supervisor functions under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, interfacing with medical and clinical services. Serves as a liaison between the Director of Nursing and Nursing staff. Plans, implements, directs and evaluates nursing care provided to all patients.
Provides exceptional care to patients through assessment, monitoring and communicating observations to essential members of the treatment teams. Offers orientation and training to all new nursing staff on shift. Serves as the shift supervisor for all nursing care in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
Develops and initiates the Nursing Care Plan, facilitates therapeutic nursing or health groups, and provides clear and complete client documentation. Implements Physician Orders, administers medication as prescribed, and counts narcotics daily, logging appropriately. Communicates with BHT staff and serves as a link to clinical team.
Leads staff and delegates responsibilities in a positive and professional manner. Assesses psychological and medical issues, prioritizing and reporting to proper clinical staff and leadership. Promotes restoration of health, patient and family education, and serves as a patient advocate in behavioral health treatment.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Experience supervising nursing staff in behavioral health settings
- Knowledge of medication administration and narcotic protocols
- Ability to perform medical and nutritional assessments upon admission
- Familiarity with Physician Orders implementation and first aid
- Skills in infection control measures and TB testing administration
- Competence in electronic medical record systems for MARS and logs
