About this role
We are seeking a Charge Medical Surgical Nurse, sometimes referred to as a Med Surge RN. The Charge Registered Nurse is an experienced RN providing direct patient care while accountable for facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, resource utilization, and problem solving for the department. This full-time days role offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.
Lead the clinical team to ensure high patient and physician satisfaction, providing support through complex issues. Conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health. Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and clinical indicators to detect changes in conditions.
Recognize and act on warning signs of deterioration like changes in heart rate or mental status. Safely administer prescribed medications including IV and monitor for adverse effects. Act as liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to meet patient needs.
Communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop care plans. Provide patient education on conditions, treatments, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission. Work days from 7:00AM to 7:00PM with $2 to $6 per hour shift differential.
Requirements
- Current and valid state RN License
- Current BLS upon hire and maintain current
- Current ACLS 30 days upon hire and maintain current
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- RN-C within 2 years of hire preferred
- PALS within 30 days of hire for units that admit pediatric patients
Responsibilities
- Lead clinical team in ensuring high patient and physician satisfaction and provide support through difficult and complex issues
- Use independent judgment to make effective recommendations regarding adjustment/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised staff
- Use independent judgment to recommend evaluation results of supervised employees, inclusive of promotion, rewards, performance improvement opportunities and termination
- Demonstrate clinical competence utilizing the nursing process (assess, plan, intervention, evaluation)
- Conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health
- Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators to detect changes in patient conditions
- Safely administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and monitor for adverse effects or allergic reactions
- Provide patient education on their condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission
