About this role

The Staff Nurse provides longitudinal care for patients in the Pain Management Center. This role involves working in a busy procedural setting, including teaching and care for initial, follow-up, and procedure patients with fluoroscopy. Manages intrathecal therapy and responds to patient requests and inquiries.

The Registered Nurse plans and provides patient care for assigned patients per Nursing Standards of Care. Demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills for patients with complex needs. Assumes full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Works collaboratively with patients, families, and colleagues to provide excellent care in the safest environment. Interacts professionally and coordinates with other disciplines. Maintains continuity through clear verbal and written communication.

Participates in unit-based and organizational quality improvement programs. Evaluates effectiveness of care plans and revises as needed. Contributes to high-performing teams advancing medical discoveries at Mass General Brigham.

Requirements

  • Registered professional nurse in Massachusetts
  • Knowledge and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs
  • Ability to effectively manage patients assuming full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation
  • Appropriate knowledge of growth and development of the adult and geriatric patient
  • Demonstrates initiative in patient care
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication

Responsibilities

  • Provide longitudinal care for patients in the Pain Management Center
  • Teach and care for initial, follow-up, and procedure patients including fluoroscopy
  • Manage intrathecal therapy
  • Respond to patients' requests and inquiries
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for specific patient assignments
  • Administer medication safely according to established policies and procedures
  • Document patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, and concise
  • Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity
