About this role

Reporting to the Patient Care Services Director, the Shift Manager utilizes the nursing process and organizational/leadership skills to coordinate services of staff to patients during the designated shift. Assures patient care is appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served. This role drives excellence in neuro patient outcomes.

Assesses staff need for the unit and collaborates with the staffing coordinator, Nurse Director, and Administrative Nursing Supervisor to ensure patient needs are met. Oversees shift operations in the neuro unit, focusing on acute care delivery. Manages resources to support specialized neurological patient care.

Works in a dynamic environment at Doctors Medical Center of Modesto, regularly exposed to contagious diseases, unpredictable situations, and crisis conditions. Subject to irregular hours and increased stress from multiple calls. Handles exposure to radiation hazards and biohazards occasionally.

Requirements

  • Three to five years acute care experience or equivalent, RN skills as described for designated unit
  • Managerial Communications preferred
  • California Registered Nursing license
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • TCAR required within 12 months of hire/transfer
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) education module within 6 months of hire or transfer and maintain thereafter
  • Lift/position up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 50 lbs of force, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching

  • Monitor compliance with stroke care protocols during shift
  • Coordinate acute care staffing and resource allocation
