About this role

Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to lead a team of RNs, LPNs, and PCTs in providing nursing care to adult psychiatric patients ages 18-64 in a safe and therapeutic environment. This 3rd shift position supervises nurses and PCTs while overseeing patient care and operations to ensure the highest level of care. The role involves active participation in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care from admission through discharge.

The RN Manager works closely with multidisciplinary treatment team members to deliver collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care. Responsibilities include prioritizing care according to patient acuity and managing changes in patient behavior or physical condition. This ensures a therapeutic environment for adults with mental illness.

This position operates at a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited state mental health facility in Danville, VA. DBHDS promotes recovery, self-determination, and wellness across 12 facilities providing intensive services for mental illness and substance use disorders. Nurse Managers offer supervision and support to staff on 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with schedule flexibility including weekends and holidays in rotation. Requirements

  • Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement accepted
  • Graduation from an accredited registered nurse program
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license required and must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of RNs, LPNs, and PCTs in providing nursing care to adult psychiatric patients ages 18-64
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary treatment team to provide collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care
  • Prioritize care according to patient acuity
  • Manage changes in patient behavior and/or physical condition
  • Supervise a team of nurses and PCTs on 3rd shift
  • Oversee patient care and operations to ensure the highest level of patient care
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care from admission through discharge
  • Offer supervision and support to nurses and PCTs
